Firm cites Santa Rosa’s sharp crash decline under the 2022 Vision Zero Action Plan, while urging fixes at repeat hotspots like Santa Rosa Ave & Yolanda.
SANTA ROSA, CA, UNITED STATES, August 25, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — SuperAwesomeLawyer.com, a Santa Rosa personal injury firm serving Sonoma, Napa, Marin, and Lake counties, is highlighting the City of Santa Rosa’s Vision Zero Action Plan as a sign of progress on traffic safety – while cautioning that crash risk remains concentrated at a small number of known intersections across the city.
Santa Rosa City Council adopted the Sonoma County Vision Zero Action Plan in July 2022, setting a formal target of zero traffic deaths and severe injuries on city roadways by 2030. According to the city’s own tracking dashboard, Santa Rosa saw one of the most pronounced improvements of any jurisdiction in the plan, with total crashes declining from 870 in 2017 to 326 in 2021, and fatal and severe crashes falling from a high of 65 in 2018 to 41 in 2021.
Even with that progress, national crash data shows Santa Rosa recorded 28 fatal crashes and 29 traffic deaths between 2020 and 2024, according to NHTSA figures – with speeding cited as a factor in 43% of those crashes and alcohol involved in 21%.
Local crash analyses have repeatedly pointed to a handful of Santa Rosa intersections as recurring hotspots, particularly along Santa Rosa Avenue and near the city’s US-101 interchanges, where heavy commercial and highway-adjacent traffic converge. Specifically, Santa Rosa Avenue & Yolanda has been plagued with crashes, including fatalities, and more should be done to analyze what design changes could mitigate the danger.
“I hold the record largest wrongful death jury verdict from an auto crash in Sonoma County history and the death was caused by a dangerous intersection that should have been fixed years before. We live in the information age. The City, County and State governments know which intersections are particularly dangerous. They know which intersections have visibility issues, dangerously high traffic volumes, and other risk elements. I applaud the City of Santa Rosa for making this safety effort a priority. Progress has been made but there is still more work to do. Accidents will always be part of our lives but I’d be happy if I never had to represent another family of someone killed in a car crash,” said Jeremy Fietz, lead personal injury attorney at SuperAwesomeLawyer.com.
